This place is really good. It's hard to find halal chinese restaurants in Toronto. Well.. you find maybe one or two but like, this place is above all. The customer service is really good and the people are very friendly. The place is maybe a little small, but it feels cozy and, ya know, even if the place is small, the food is still amazing. I've been eating at this restaurant since i was um 4 and its been like 10 years. I've eaten there almost once every month or like once every two months. It's really great when I eat there after a long time.. it just feels nice :) I definately recommend this restaurant :)

this place is amazing. either it will be your favourite restaurant ever or you might not like it.
but the chili chicken is to sooooooo good.

I had a 45 mins drive to get there and was so disappointed with the quality of food served. A fews years back they use to be so good - don't know what changed over the years! A waste of my time and money.
They really need to get back to real authentic hakka dishes - perhaps they might get a better rating in future!

...Not much to say except it is my favourite restaurant I've ever been to. Good news for religious people, the food is all halaal except for the alcoholic beverages. But the quality of the food is amazing, and there really is a chinese-indian-pakistani feel I always get from here. The staff is pretty kind as well as helpful. The costs are not too bad and the atmosphere is amazing. But the food is the real jude and damn! I've tasted plenty me a good food in meh liv but tis be da b33t evah! In all seriousness, there food is of the utnmost quality.

After reading this thread, I thought I will just put my 2 cents into the "Food Quality at Federick". I was a "Loyal to Death" diner at Federick for the last 10 years. For the past one year or so, I find the food there not the same as it used to be. I loved Federick so much that I did not stop going there in spite of a Waiter's utter rudeness and disrespect to the customer about 4 years ago. The altercation was passified by one senior staff there (may be one of the owners) when he apologized for his employee's behaviour. I had been seeing this senior staff member there ever since I started going there back in 1999 but I don't see him there any more. I think he split and took the main cook with him. I hear that he has started his own Hakka Restaurant in Toronto or GTA but I don't know where. I read somewhere that it was Faley's but it is not. I specially went to Faley's to eat just to find this out but I was disappointed although the food there was not bad but not what I was expecting.
I have been itching to say this for quite sometime. I am never going to go to Federick again. I have tried it three times in the last one year and it got all 3 strikes.
I am now looking for a good replacement for Federick and I have tried Faley's and China Garden. They are good but not the same. I have few of my favorite dishes which I base my judgment and of course Chilli Chicken is one of them.
I lived in Calcutta for two years back in the 70's and had eaten at almost every top Hakka Chinese restaurant in the city and I know what good Hakka Chinese food is like.
Next on my list to try out are Kim Kim, Willy's and Lin Garden. Although all these places have been around for quite sometime but due to my loyalty toward Federick, I did not want to even try elsewhere. Now I have said Good Bye to Federick so I would like to try the others.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to post it here.

This is the best place for Hakka food. The price is right and the service is fast. I love this place and I recommended this place to all of my friends. I've heard no bad comments from any of them, they all love it!!!!

Almost every year I travel to Toranto and make it a point to have atleast two meals in Frederik's. Awesome food !!! Love it !!

Despite its being small and cramped, and having a blocked corridor to the restaurant, the food is well worth all the trouble. Despite a 10 year absence (for travelling the world), I'm still very satisfied at the end of a meal there. Absolutely wonderful!

My family has been going to Fredericks for four years, we probably go there once a week. Out of those four years they have probably only screwed are order up Once.So for the people who say the service is bad, it isnt, yes you may wait twenty minutes, but only if your dumb enough to not order over the phone beforehand. The parking lot does suck and I actually like sitting in, if you want great food, look no further. Also the people who work there are really friendly and actually know us now haha. Enjoy

yes, the service is horrible, and the decor is awful- those seafood "tablecloths?" ugh lol. But the food is quick, cheap, and awesome. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 20 minutes for my food even when the place was packed. If you don't want to worry about the service, do what most of us do- order takeout, go home and enjoy your food.

My Family has been going to Frederick's Restaurant for the past 20 years and probably once a month. I think there food is the best tasting food and i recommend it to anyone. I don't think i could live without it. 4 people dinner fills family and you will have left overs for the next days lunch for 2 for about $35. Chilli chicken comes with one small bowl of plain white rice. Needs bigger venue because always busy other then that 10/10 in my books.
